Accounts Payable Manager - Finance (Midrand) Role Description

Reporting to the Senior Financial Manager, the successful candidate will be based in Midrand and will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities


  • Accountable for the smooth operation of the Accounts Payable department
  • Team leadership and strategy
  • Stakeholder management and communication
  • Review and approve weekly / monthly reconciliations
  • Review of sundry invoices and credit notes
  • Approval of payments on the bank (Online banking)
  • Review of intercompany transactions and reconciliations
  • Review of tactical and goods returned credit notes
  • Review of debtors offsets
  • Approval of new vendors, amendments and verification of existing vendors
  • Review Accounts Payable ageing and take decisive and necessary action
  • Monthly reporting on Accounts Payable KPI’s
  • Improvement of processes in order to be more efficient
  • Outgoing cash flow management and reporting
  • Liaison with internal / external auditors
  • Manage foreign exchange workflow between business and finance

  • Matric certificate with mathematics and a financial qualification and/or a relevant diploma will be an advantage
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience within a finance department
  • Strong personality
  • Distribution / FMCG experience will be an advantage
  • Proven experience in managing an Accounts Payable book of in excess of R500 million, including foreign payables
  • Proven experience in managing a foreign exchange workflow
  • Ability to work with numbers effortlessly, must have a passion for working with numbers
  • Excellent time management, well organized and planned i.e., deadline driven and able to prioritize a high workload
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Above average computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Customer Service orientated
  • Can manage a high stress and pressurised environment
  • Excellent communication skills (able to communicate with a diverse range of people at all levels of an organization)
