Internal Account Manager Role Description

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the successful candidates will be based in Durban and will beresponsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities


  • Customer Relationships
    o Identifying and understanding role players in each assigned account
    o Liaise between divisions and customers to efficiently communicate deliveries and ETA’s feedback etc
    o First point of contact with the customer
    o Portraying professionalism and confidence that delivers the ultimate in customer service  
    o To build and maintain an active customer base to support the sales team

  • Account Planning
    o Proactivity on sales by implementing an agreed sales strategy with the Account manager on named accounts
    o Understanding of each assigned account, with the ability to give regular feedback
    o Quotations should meet specifications as per requirement, thorough insight of specific account or department should be taken into consideration when quoting
    o Specific objectives set for each account / ownership of account / understanding of individual Account's terms and conditions
    o Support the Sales team and develop new sales
    o To capitalize on opportunities through negotiation of prices to achieve sales targets set by the Management team
    o Maintain an agreed level of pro-active telephone contact with both existing and prospective customers
    o Effectively deal with telephone enquiries requesting quotations for products, compiling information on the desired products or datasheets
    o Maximize sales by continually expanding orders and up selling on all incoming and outgoing calls
    o Liaise daily with the external sales team and update them on any developments on their accounts, ensuring a high level of team relationships exist

    o Order Process - Consultative Selling
    o Create quotations from requests received
    o Ensure all orders received are entered into the system accurately
    o Meet and exceed the agreed SLA’s on quoting and deliveries
    o Ensure a consistent closure rate within appropriate timelines
    o Follow up on warehouse until in production and to delivery
    o Account Managers to be cc'd on all correspondence on their accounts
    o Ensure all quotations are followed up
  • Client Communication
    o Ensure that all customer complaints, issues, and queries reach a successful and appropriate conclusion

  • Activity Reporting
    o Processing of relevant orders, delivery notes/collection notes, back orders, ETA’s, and feedback communication
    o Filing of relevant documents
    o Follow up of queries, quotations, deliveries, payments timeously
    o Provide management with sales on hand reports timeously on a weekly basis

  • Matric is essential and a tertiary qualification will be an advantage
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Sales or Marketing
  • A minimum of two to three (2 to 3) years IT distribution experience in the sales support role
  • Own transport and valid driver’s license
  • Good time management and well organized i.e. deadline driven, able to plan and prioritize ahigh workload
  • Above average computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
